New products introduced from Electro-Harmonix

Electro-Harmonix is coming out with a handful of new products that look to be useful, well thought out and all with unique features that aren’t found elsewhere. Here’s a quick summary.
a2079151293db7f59370c7 m New products introduced from Electro HarmonixElectro-Harmonix 44 Magnum Power Amp – a follow-up to the EHX 22 Caliber Power Amp, the 44 Magnum provides 44 watts of power into either 8 or 16 ohms and literally fits in the palm of your hand. It’s the ultimate in portability. Price: $144.75 ETA: Mid-late July

Electro-Harmonix Freeze Sound Retainer Infinite Sustain pedal a2079151293da0d69156ea m New products introduced from Electro Harmonix- out of all five of the new products EHX is releasing this summer, the Freeze is the one I’m most excited about. It’s a fairly simple concept that’s such a great idea I don’t know why something like this hasn’t been released already. The Freeze allows you to capture any momentary sound, chord, note, etc. that’s played into it and hold that note indefinitely. You can tap the switch again to “recapture” a new sound. As EHX says, “it’s like adding another musician to your band.” Price: $118.50 ETA: Late June

a2079151293d99134f82f2 m New products introduced from Electro HarmonixElectro-Harmonix Germanium 4 Big Muff Pi Overdrive / Distortion – this takes some of the classic elements of the Big Muff Pi and adds some cool new features. It’s a dual pedal – one overdrive channel and one distortion channel. Each channel utilizes two germanium chips and each channel can be used by itself, or they can be stacked together for even more tonal possibilities (using all 4 germanium chips together). It also uses a control similar to the EHX Germanium OD – a Volts control that controls the amount of power going to the pedal. A control that makes big changes in the overall sound of the pedal. Price: $99.75 ETA: Late June

a2079151293d909813a5f8 m New products introduced from Electro Harmonix

Electro-Harmonix Headphone Amp personal practice amplifier – this is a product simliar to other products on the market, but in an even more compact size than just about any comparable product out there. It runs on a single 9v battery and allows you to practice anywhere you can bring a guitar! Price: $45 ETA: Late June

a2079151293dac8d2ee241 m New products introduced from Electro HarmonixElectro-Harmonix Neo Clone Analog Chorus – The Neo Clone is the same circuit as the classic Small Clone, but in a Nano sized box. It’s also similar to the Nano Clone, but the Neo Clone offers an added Depth switch which offers more tonal possibilities. If you want that classic Chorus tone without the classic Chorus size, the Neo Clone is a great option. Price: $66.75 ETA: Late June
All of these look to be great products that will fit a lot of uses and specific needs. If you’ve got questions on any of these please drop an email or give us a call (218.260.4176).

The Chicago Blues Festival!!

Hey! This is Aaron at Macdaddy Music -

This weekend (Friday June 11 – Sunday June 13) marks the largest free Blues Festival in the world – the Chicago Blues Festival. It’s one of the biggest in the world period, regardless of free or not. I was able to make it last year and it was a blast! The music was of course fantastic and the atmosphere was just as good. There were big name legends playing, young and up-coming groups as well as a lot of local blues groups who were simply amazing. Apple has even created a free app just for the festival that’s really thorough, intuitive and useful.

I’m heading down to Chicago for the festival again this year and I’m really looking forward to it. With all the bands performing it is going to be a jam packed weekend of music. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and the rain will hold off! Are any of you going to the blues fest or performing this weekend? I’d love to hear of any suggestions of bands that are not to be missed!

Enjoy your weekend, whatever you may be doing!

NAMM supports victims of the Nashville Flood

Alright, this isn’t exactly cutting edge news, but that doesn’t take away from it’s severity! The flood in Nashville has been a huge hit to Nashville in a lot of ways, but thankfully the people there are getting a lot of support from various organizations including NAMM and the Music Products Industry at large. The NAMM show will be held in Nashville this month which will be big economic boost and there will be a number of great events including a silent auction and a donation area for instruments that will all benefit Nashville and it’s musicians.

Read more here NAMM and the Music Products Industry Lend a Hand to Nashville for Flood Relief

On a related note, music industry product companies located in Nashville were hit by the flooding and are needing some time to get back up to speed. One in particular is Gibson – their guitar factory including their accessories (pickups, parts, strings) is behind, so please bear this in mind if you’re order any Gibson products. They could be out of stock for a bit if the store you’re buying from is sold out.

Distortion vs. Overdrive – what’s the difference?

I’m happy to introduce what is the first in what will hopefully be a long line of useful videos that will hopefully give a bit more insight into the world of guitar effects.

Today’s video is on the difference between distortion and overdrive. A lot of people know the difference, but a lot of people don’t (including those who have played guitar for a long time). They have a lot of similarities of course (thus the confusion by some people) but are certainly different effects.

To demonstrate the difference between the two, I’m using the ModTone MT-OD Dyno Drive Ovedrive pedal and the T-Rex Tonebug Distortion pedal. I’m also using a Washburn P3 guitar with Seymour Duncan humbuckers and a Mesa Nomad 45 amp on the clean channel.

Thanks for reading/watching! If you’ve got ideas or feedback for future videos, please let me know!

We’ve entered 2009….and joined Twitter.

We’ve always been known as trendy (insert sarcastic eye roll here) and have just joined Twitter as a way to stay in touch with customers on the little things that happen every week. New items in stock, specials, used gear, etc. Our user name is macdaddy411 (somebody took macdaddymusic already – I guess either the name isn’t that original or we’re that popular?)

Anyhow, feel free to follow us – I promise it’ll be worthwhile and not annoying!

Emma Electronic pedals now in stock

We’ve just added a great new brand to our line-up – Emma Electronic, based out of Denmark. They make some really great pedals with names that are as memorable as the tone the pedals produce. Their pedals are well thought out with a lot of great controls, and most importantly they sound incredible! We’ve got three of their models in stock at the moment – check out specs and prices here.

The pedal I’m most impressed with at this point is the PisdiYAUwot Metal Distortion. Check out this video. I’ve never heard a pedal sound this great for metal.
