We just got in our first batch of the newly released EHX Steel Leather pedals. I haven’t had a chance to plug one in yet, so I can’t give a first hand review, but the concept is cool (albeit a little mundane to some people – ie keyboard players, grandmothers and most significant others). According to EHX:
“The STEEL LEATHER is a controllable percusive / attack effect designed specifically for bass guitar. Any bass player who wants to cut rough will find the STEEL LEATHER a must have. From a chamois touch to Thor’s hammer, the STEEL LEATHER places the electric bass where it should be. Cunningly defined and right in the mix.”
The Steel Leather is more about subtlety than flash. It’s one of those effects that goes largely unnoticed, but when it’s missing it’s very obvious that it is missing (similar to compressors, EQ’s and some reverbs).
